# Radiation Fog
- Low lying areas when the ground cools rapidly and cools the air mass directly above it
- Most common on a calm, clear, cool night, low winds
# Advection Fog
- When a warm, moist mass of air moves over a cold surface
- Can be common in coastal areas, caused by strong winds with onshore flow with narrow dewpoint temperature spread
# Upslope Fog
- Moist, stable air mass is forced up sloping land that makes it cooler
# Steam Fog
- Cold, dry air mass moves over warm water
- Water evaporates and creates fog that resembles smoke
# Ice Fog
- Occurs when the temperature is far below freezing and water vapor forms directly into ice crystals
- Usually -25F or colder for it to occur
# Precipitation Induced Fog
- Evaporation of a cold air mass through the precipitation can cause evaporation and sublimation to create fog
- Also called frontal fog
